Data & Analytics

You do not have a data shortage.

Most large organisations hold more data than they can use. It arrives from systems built at different times, in shapes that do not agree with each other, and by the time somebody has assembled it into an answer the question has usually moved on. We build the platforms, the pipelines and the reporting that turn it into something your business and your regulator can both rely on.

The challenges

It takes days to assemble, and someone still corrects it before anybody will trust the numbers. The cause is almost never the report.

Each new system and integration was added without a blueprint. Now nobody owns it, nothing is documented, and a simple change has become a project with a budget.

The same figure reported differently in the same meeting, because the business rule lives in three places and they have drifted apart.

Reporting obligations get revised annually, sometimes more than once a year. Every revision has to be absorbed by processes built for the version before it.

The requirement did not survive the trip from the people who understood it to the people who had to build it. It surfaces during testing, which is the most expensive place to find it.

Your own team understands the domain better than any supplier could. The work queues behind everything already running, and by the time it starts the need has moved.

Most of our work starts with one of these. Tell us which one is yours.

Why choose us for Data & Analytics?

1

We know what the data is for

Our consultants have spent a decade or more inside the processes these platforms exist to serve, so they read a data model and a reporting obligation with equal confidence.

2

We stay long enough to be useful

Engagements here run for years, which is how our people come to understand a client’s data well enough to change it safely.

3

We give you the choice, costed

Every recommendation comes with a budget-conscious option and a best-practice one, so any compromise is a decision you made rather than one you inherited.

Sectors We Serve

Data work looks different depending on who has to sign it off. Our deepest experience is with organisations where reporting volume is high, the rules are set from outside, and the systems underneath have been running for a long time.

FAQs

With the symptom. Clients rarely arrive knowing whether they have a reporting problem, a platform problem or a requirements problem, and the three look similar from the outside. Describe what is going wrong and we will tell you which of these it actually is, which is often not the one people expect.

Often, but not always, and it is worth establishing which before committing to anything. Some reporting problems are caused by the platform underneath and cannot be fixed above it. Others are a sequencing or a data quality issue that can be resolved without touching the architecture. We would rather tell you the cheaper answer when it is the right one.

Yes, and it is most of what we do. Our specialism is enterprise platforms that are already carrying the business, which means improving them while they stay in service rather than proposing to start again. Starting again is rarely a decision an organisation can actually afford.

Either. We work as an integrated part of an existing team, as a named individual owning a specific function, or as our own delivery unit with clear accountability. Which one fits depends less on the size of the work than on where the ownership needs to sit, and we will recommend one rather than leaving it to you.

Access to the systems and whatever documentation exists, and time with two groups of people: those who maintain the platform and those who depend on its output. The second matters more than clients expect, because a great deal of what a data platform actually does is understood by individuals rather than written down.

Tell us what is not working

One conversation is usually enough to establish whether this is a reporting problem, a platform problem or a people problem, and which of our services it points to.
