Overview

An international IT service provider specialising in the digital transformation of banks partnered with a major European bank — a member of the Intesa Sanpaolo Group — to support its digital transformation initiatives. The project focused on developing and implementing new functionalities for both the existing and the new web and mobile applications of the bank, with the primary objective of modernising its digital offerings to enhance customer satisfaction, accelerate loan processing and reduce operational costs. Koios took on the Business Analyst role across a programme that ran for 14 months in four phases.

Challenge

The bank required significant digital upgrades to align with modern banking trends, which meant a comprehensive overhaul of its platforms rather than incremental change. Coordinating that work across international teams — with different time zones and work cultures — added complexity, and all of it had to be delivered under strict deadlines.

The IT service provider lacked the in-house expertise required to navigate these complex digital transformations effectively. Without an external business analyst, it would have faced reallocating internal resources or hiring additional consultants, which would likely have meant longer development times, higher costs and potential project delays.

Action

The programme opened with initial analysis and requirement gathering. Koios collaborated with the international teams involved to identify key improvement areas and define the bank’s specific needs, establishing what the upgrade actually had to deliver before development began.

Through development and implementation, Koios coordinated the introduction of digital card functionalities and online loan contract signing, working closely with developers and UX/UI designers on feature integration. As business analysts, the team coordinated efforts among developers, testers and designers, in close collaboration with the bank’s internal teams to keep all stakeholders aligned.

Agile methodology allowed the team to respond quickly to issues as they arose and implement the necessary changes without compromising the timeline. Continuous improvement was another key aspect of the approach: regular reviews and feedback sessions made incremental improvements possible and kept the project on track.

Testing and quality assurance followed, with rigorous testing phases to identify and rectify bugs while managing timely updates to the applications. The newly developed features were then deployed, with ongoing monitoring in place afterwards.

The work was delivered using Flutter for the cross-platform mobile applications, an API interface to integrate the different banking systems, and Jira and Confluence for project management, bug tracking and team collaboration. Taking on the business analyst role enabled the IT service provider to meet its project goals efficiently and cost-effectively.

Change
  • Increased customer satisfaction Faster and more user-friendly services led to higher customer engagement and satisfaction.
  • Improved loan processing efficiency Streamlined processes resulted in faster loan approvals, meeting customer needs more effectively.
  • Reduced operational costs Automation of processes reduced the need for manual intervention, leading to cost savings.
  • Enhanced market competitiveness Modernised services helped the bank strengthen its position in the competitive banking market.
