Financial Services

Data that answers to the business and the regulator.

Financial institutions carry reporting obligations that change several times a year, core systems that predate everyone now working on them, and data spread across platforms built for different purposes. We build and run the data platforms, regulatory reporting and delivery capability that keep those obligations met while the business keeps running.

The challenges

What makes this harder here

Most of these problems exist in other industries too. What changes in financial services is that the deadline comes from outside the organisation, the cost of getting it wrong is regulatory rather than commercial, and the systems involved were built to last decades.

Frameworks that change faster than the systems

COREP, FINREP, AnaCredit, CESOP and the local equivalents get revised annually, sometimes more than once in a year. Every revision has to be absorbed by processes built for the version before it.

Reporting twice, to two masters

A subsidiary of a foreign group reports to its national regulator and to its parent for consolidated reporting. The two contain much the same data and differ in format, scope and rules, so the second cannot be produced from the first.

Deadlines nobody can negotiate

The date is set by a regulator, a merger agreement or the day the old system is switched off. It does not move because the project is having a difficult quarter.

Data quality discovered at submission

Errors found when a return is rejected rather than before it was filed, and then the correction and resubmission effort that nobody planned for.

Domain knowledge held by individuals

Credit risk, treasury, payments, cards and capital markets understood in depth by a small number of people, and documented nowhere that survives their departure.

Modernising while everything stays up

Core platforms that the business depends on daily and cannot be paused for a rewrite, which rules out most of the approaches that would be simplest.

Sound familiar?
Data exists everywhere, but clarity is harder to find.
